FIRE STATUS:
Rombo Mountain Fire received as much as ¾ inch of rain from the storms that passed through the area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Fire spread was greatly reduced; crews accomplished chain-deep (66 feet) mop up along hand lines on Shook Mountain.
Removal of hose, pumps and other equipment along the west and south flanks is progressing rapidly. Firefighters will be on private property removing fire equipment. Crews are restoring 10 miles of dozer line, 13 miles of hand line, 5 drop points, 9 safety zones, 4 miles of road and removing 60,000 feet of hose.
Bitterroot Hot Shots arrived yesterday and will be working in the Shook Mountain area.
Weather is predicted to be drier through the weekend; fire activity should remain low.
CLOSURES
Forest Supervisor David T. Bull has altered the southern closure boundary; it is now approximately Overwhich Creek, east to Straight Creek, to the southern side of Trail 606. Lookout Mountain and the roads in the Hughes Creek area are now open; Road 5734 to the Saddle Mountain area is now open. For details about the closure change, please call 821-3269.
