Rombo Mountain Fire Update 8/25/07 @ 4 PM
Incident: Rombo Mountain Wildland Fire
Released: 8/25/2007
SPECIAL UPDATE
Fire activity has increased on the Rombo Mountain Fire this afternoon (Saturday) as fire fighters expected. Two smoke columns, clearly visible from Hwy 93 near Conner, MT are a direct result of the hotter, drier weather and gusting winds predicted for today.
"There's a lot of smoke, plenty of fire, but we're not seeing much actual growth in the perimeter of the Rombo Mountain Fire, except in the northern portion," said Incident Commander Mike Quesinberry. "We expected the fire to kick up...it just happened a little bit sooner in the day than we thought it would."
Quesinberry stressed that the level of evacuations in the area has not changed. Residents should remain aware of their surroundings and be careful when driving in smoky areas. New fires have an 80% chance of growing into a larger fire. Be careful of all outdoor activities that could result in a new fire start. Report all fires to the appropriate contact as soon as possible.
