COMMUNITY MEETING SCHEDULED:

Monday, July 30, 2007 at 8:00p.m.

Location: Clinton Elementary School

Firefighters continue to battle flames on the Mile Marker 124 fire located three miles east of Clinton, Montana. Gusty winds and high temperatures were factors leading to larger growth. Fire management officials estimate the size of the fire to be approximately one thousand acres. Heavy air tankers and helicopters spent most of the afternoon dumping retardant and water along the fires edge in hopes of slowing its progression.

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team A out of the Rocky Mountain Region took over management of the fire on Sunday afternoon. "Safety of the public and our firefighters will be the number one priority in managing this incident" stated Incident Commander Don Angell, "there is nothing in the fire's path that is worth risking anyone's safety." The team is also managing mop up efforts on the Golf Course Fire east of Missoula which has been contained at approximately six acres.

Today firefighters from local, state and federal agencies will continue line construction and structure protection with available resources. Air support will continue as available with Initial Attack resources. Throughout the coming days an increase in fire personnel and emergency vehicle traffic will be seen in and around the fire area. Residents are encouraged to prepare themselves in the case an evacuation is ordered, however only volunteer evacuations are currently in place.

Motorists are being asked to watch their speeds and pay close attention to changes in traffic. The Missoula County Sheriff's Department will be patrolling the I-90 corridor around the clock in the fire area and are strictly enforcing the 'no stopping' and reduced speed limits.
