Incident: Conger Creek
Released: 8/16/2007
Yesterday's Activities: The Conger Creek Fire grew about 485 acres yesterday to about 9800 acres in size. The fire pushed to the south in the North Fork of the Blackfoot Drainage, burning dead and down fuel from the 1988 Canyon Creek Burn. A crew hiked into Burnt Cabin to perform structure protection. The crew was able to wrap a bridge and part of the cabin before active fire behavior on the Railley Mountain Fire forced them to leave. A new fire was located about six miles southwest of the Conger Creek Fire. It is called the Ovando Point fire and is estimated at 30+ acres. There are resources assigned.
Weather and Fire Behavior forecast for today: Areas of smoke, temperatures 78-88 degrees, humidity 9-17 percent, winds out of the southwest 5-15 MPH, chance of afternoon gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Today's Planned Actions: The fire use module will monitor the fire and check for spot fires. A community meeting will be held in Ovando this evening at 7:00 pm.
Special Notices, Alerts & Restrictions: There are new restrictions in the Scapegoat Wilderness on the Lincoln Ranger District of the Helena National Forest. Please see the closure section of this document for detailed information.
