August 8 Conger Creek Fire Daily Update

Incident: Conger Creek Wildland Fire
Released: 8/9/2007

High winds yesterday evening increased activity on the Conger Creek Fire and the size is now estimated at 6000 acres. The fire continues to spot to the east and is backing toward the North Fork Cabin, which has structure protection in place. Spotting has also occurred across the Dry Fork below Falls Point Lookout. Red flag warnings are in effect from 3pm to 9pm this evening.

The fire use module is stationed at the North Fork Cabin. Crews will be working on structure protection for Carmichael and Burnt Cabin later this week.

As a result of fire activity on the Railley Mountain Fire and the Conger Creek Fire, an area closure has been ordered for a majority of the Seeley Lake backcountry and trail system.
