DATE OF DETECTION: July 13, 2007 CAUSE: Lightning
CURRENT SIZE: 94 Acres CONTAINMENT: 40%
LOCATION: The St. Regis Complex consists of 7 fires located west of St. Regis, MT. Most fires are in the range of 5-15 acres; the Fisher Fire is 60 acres in size.
PERSONNEL: There are approximately 180 firefighters and support personnel assigned to the fires. These include Six Type II crews and one Type 1 (Hotshot) crew. A Type III Incident Management Team composed of Superior Ranger District personnel and other specialists is in charge of the fires.
AIRCRAFT ASSIGNED: 2 helicopters are assigned to the complex; other air resources will be used as available.
EQUIPMENT: 8 engines and water tenders; 2 excavators; 1 skidgine, and 1 dozer
STATUS: Continued progress was made yesterday: firelines on 6 of the fires were secured, and mop up operations proceeded without any problems. Good progress was made on constructing the line on the Fisher Fire.
TODAY'S EFFORTS: Firefighters will continue to secure firelines and work on mopping up entire fire perimeters on the 5 smaller fires (the Deborgia Fire is in patrol status). Line construction will continue on the Fisher Fire; excavators, the skidgine, the dozer, and water tenders will continue road work to improve access to the fire. Helicopters will be used to drop water.
WEATHER and FIRE BEHAVIOR: Mostly sunny with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon accompanied by gusty winds. Valley temperatures will range from 97-102; ridgetop temperatures will range from 83-92. Winds will be from the southeast at 5-15miles per hour. Relative humidity will be in the range of 20-30%. Fire Rates of Spread will be lower this morning due to the rainfall received during yesterday's thunderstorm, however, fire behavior in the afternoon could include short-range spotting along the leading edges of the fire front.
