DATE OF DETECTION: July 13, 2007 CAUSE: Lightning
CURRENT SIZE: 94 Acres CONTAINMENT: 40%
LOCATION: The St. Regis Complex consists of 7 fires located west of St. Regis, MT. Most fires are in the range of 5-15 acres; the Fisher Fire is 60 acres in size. The decrease in total acres for the complex was due to improved mapping.
PERSONNEL: There are approximately 200 firefighters and support personnel assigned to the fires. These include Six Type II crews and two Type 1 (Hotshot) crews. A Type III Incident Management Team composed of Superior Ranger District personnel and other specialists is in charge of the fires.
AIRCRAFT ASSIGNED: 3 helicopters are assigned to the complex; other air resources will be used as available.
EQUIPMENT: 8 engines and water tenders; 2 excavators; 1 skidgine.
STATUS: Continued progress was made yesterday: firelines on 6 of the fires were secured, and mop up operations commenced. Line construction began on the Fisher Fire, supported by helicopters. The Deborgia Fire was placed in patrol status.
TODAY'S EFFORTS: Firefighters will secure firelines and work on mopping up entire fire perimeters on the 5 smaller fires. Line construction will continue on the Fisher Fire; excavators, the skidgine, and water tenders will continue road work to improve access to the fire. Helicopters will be used to drop water.
WEATHER and FIRE BEHAVIOR: Partly sunny, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon accompanied by gusty winds. Valley temperatures will range from 93-102; ridgetop temperatures will range from 77-87. Winds will be from the south at 5-10 miles per hour.
