CHINA BACK FIRE COMPLEX

Yreka, CA - The China and Back fires which started as a result of severe lightning from thunderstorms on July 9th have kept firefighters busy for the past week and a half in steep rugged terrain.

The China Fire has been declared 100% contained with total acres topping out at 2,906. Homes along the Klamath River are no longer threatened and traffic on roads has been reduced due to release of fire equipment from the incident. 171 firefighters remain on the fire line and more are expected to be released today.

The Back Fire is 100% contained and also will be continually monitored.

Although containment has been achieved, some areas deep within the burned area are still smoking. The weather is expected to remain the same for the next two days and assist final extinguishment.

The incident management team will be leaving Saturday; the fire will be managed by the Happy Camp and Oak Knoll Ranger Districts.
