CHINA BACK FIRE COMPLEX
Yreka, CA - The China Back Fire Complex started Monday night as a result of severe lightning fires in the area West of Yreka, and consists of two fires, the China and the Back.
Fire crews, smoke-jumpers, and water dropping helicopters continue to battle the fire which is located on the Klamath National Forest. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the US Forest Service are working in Unified Command to continue an aggressive effort to suppress the China Fire. The fire is not currently on State Responsibility Area (SRA), but may burn into CAL FIRE's jurisdiction, which lies to the South and East of the current fire area.
The past 24 hours have produced good progress on many areas of the fire line. Firefighters are cautiously optimistic that progress will continue today despite the fact that weather over the fire area is expected to see increasing winds today. The fire remains within the original containment lines. Life safety and structure protection continues to be top priority on the fire.
China Fire - 2492 Acres, 35% containment
Back Fire - 28 acres, 85% containment
