FIRE UPDATE: Fletcher Fire

Modoc National Forest

July 19, 2007

Location: 20 miles northwest of Davis Creek, California

Date and Time of Fire Start: July 10 at 1:15 p.m.

Cause: Lightning

Fuels: Timber (Jeffrey pine, white fir, juniper) and grass

Cooperating Agencies: Forest Service (USFS), National Park Service (NPS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Cal Fire (CDF), US Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS ), Westside-Thomas Creek Rural FD, Davis Creek Volunteer FD, Modoc and Lake Counties, local government, Collins Pine Company, and private contractors

Estimated Fire Size: 8,121 Acres

Estimated Fire Containment: 80%

Estimated Expected Containment: July 19, 2007

Cost to Date: $2,600,000

Injuries to Date: 0

Committed Resources: 597 total personnel that include 19 Fire Crews, 31 Engines, 6 Dozers, 16 Water Tenders, 4 Helicopters, and fire support personnel

Structures Threatened: None

Structures Damaged: None

Structures Destroyed: 2 Residences; 9 Outbuildings

Fire Activity: Higher relative humidity and some light moisture that fell on the fire moderated fire behavior which was limited to some isolated interior torching, smoldering, and burnout.

Events: Fire managers mapped and surveyed the burned area for structures that were either damaged or destroyed by the fire. Additional destroyed outbuildings were located. Fire crews continue to make good progress on strengthening containment lines. Firefighters will mop-up hot spots to 300 feet within the fire perimeter and begin fire suppression rehabilitation.

Closures: None. All roads in the fire area have been re-opened.

Evacuations: None. All evacuation orders have been lifted in the areas of Modoc County and Lake County that were affected by the fire.

Remarks: Of the total 8,121 acres that the fire has burned, 1,515 acres are Oregon land, 4,399 acres are private land, and 2,207 acres are Modoc National Forest land. Fire suppression and rehabilitation is being coordinated with the Oregon Department of Forestry, Fremont-Winema National Forest, Oregon BLM units, and the Modoc National Forest.
