Closed Area Around Pattengail Fire Reduced
Incident: Pattengail Creek Wildland Fire
Released: 9/22/2007
WISDOM, MONT., Sept. 21, 2007-The Forest Service has opened up much of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest closed by the Rat Creek and Pattengail Creek Fires near Wisdom.
The closure boundaries will be moved to the fire perimeter of both fires beginning at daylight Sunday morning (September 23).
Travelers should watch for heavy equipment and firefighters, who will continue to work in the area for several weeks.
There is still active fire in the area, officials said.
Trees may torch, columns could form and the fire may spread, they said.
Falling snags (dead trees) are common in burned areas; the closure at the fire perimeter is for public and firefighter safety.
The May Creek campground remains open 16 miles west of Wisdom on the south side of Highway 43.
Like other forest campgrounds services are limited, water systems are off for the season, there is no trash service, and camping is limited to 16 days.
