Fire Start: July 13, 2007 Cause: Lightning
Total Acres: 3900 acres Containment: 25%
Location: Fire start was 11 miles southwest of Wise River, in the west Pioneer Mountains, about 40 miles southwest of Butte, MT
Torching in the vicinity of Reservoir Creek was abated by water drops from a helicopter assigned to the fire. Once the helicopter successfully suppressed these hot spots, it was used to transport a safety officer and small hand crew to a spike camp. This crew will begin working on spot fires on the northeastern end of the fire this morning. Work also began on several contingency lines in the Grouse Creek drainage and along Tie Creek Road between Bryant Creek and Alder Creek
A dry cold front is expected this afternoon that will be accompanied by gusty winds, Red Flag Warnings, and decreased humidity. Increased fire activity is expected with these conditions.
Weather: A red flag warning is posted for Friday between 12PM and 9PM. A chance of isolated scattered thunderstorms exists. Winds are predicted to be 5-15 MPH out of the southwest in the morning becoming west 15-25 MPH and gusty during the afternoon.
Public Meeting: The next public meeting is scheduled, at the Wise River Community Center, Saturday, August 9, 2007 at 7:30 PM.
Fire Restrictions and Closures: Stage 2 fire restrictions are in place on public lands in southwest Montana. For public safety, the north end of the west Pioneer Mountains has an Area Closure.
