Klamath National Forest Announces Four New Closures
And Reopening of Three Existing Closures
Yreka, CA- Based on concern for the safety of the public and firefighters, the Klamath National Forest has closed several access areas to the Klamath River. The closures are associated with the Elk Complex fires and are located on the Happy Camp Ranger District. Maps and legal closure orders concerning the closures are available at local Forest Service offices. The following public acts are prohibited:
Launching a watercraft at the following sites:
Indian Creek River Access, located in Happy Camp in SW ¼ of Section 11, T. 16 N., R. 7 E., Humboldt Meridian (HM).
Curly Jack Day Use Access, located in Curly Jack Campground in the SE ¼ of Section 10, T. 16 N., R. 7 E., HM.
Launching or removing a watercraft from the river at the following sites
Chamber's Flat River Access, located in the SW ¼ of Section 15, T. 16 N., R. 7 E., HM.
Wingate Bar River Access, located in the SW ¼ of Section 5, T. 15 N., R. 7 E., HM.
The Ferry Point Access, Independence River Access, and Coon Creek Access areas have been reopened for access to the Klamath River. Shifting of helicopter operations downstream in support of fire suppression on the Elk Complex has created the opportunity to reopen the areas..
