Map Shows 11,000 Acres Burned Tuesday
Incident: Fool Creek Wildland Fire Used for Resource Benefit
Released: 8/15/2007
The Fool Creek Fire burned about 11,000 acres Tuesday afternoon and evening, based on maps produced from aerial infrared images that show heat.
The fire burned from the Elko Campground along the North Fork of the Teton River Road north to the Mount Werner area. The eastern edge of the fire was still 2 to 3 miles from the Lewis and Clark National Forest boundary, based on the map.
Although the fire burned through seven cabins in the Massey Tract area, none of the cabins was lost. The cabins had been sprinkled for days to prepare them for the possibility that the fire might burn through the area.
The fire was close to the Teton Pass Ski Area, based on preliminary information.
