Fool Creek Fire Active on Saturday Afternoon
Incident: Fool Creek Wildland Fire Used for Resource Benefit
Released: 8/4/2007
Choteau, Mont., Aug. 4, 2007, 3 p.m.--Based on today's aerial reconnaissance, fire officials say the fire is active in several directions. There are spot fires northeast of the fire, just east of Corrugate Ridge. Observers saw a small spot fire in the Porcupine Creek drainage. On the south side of the fire, they also saw fire backing into the head of Nesbitt Creek.
Friday's expansion was mainly to the north, about a mile or one and a half miles. Smoke on Saturday has kept observers from getting an exact perimeter location. The fire appears to have crossed one of the upper tributaries of Strawberry Creek.
On the west flank, the fire has expanded into an area in between Bowl and Basin creeks and so is now about 1.5 miles from Gooseberry cabin.
Winds are picking up.
After the front passes firefighters hope to take another reconnaissance flight to further map the fire.
