Incident: Zaca Wildland Fire
Released: 8/23/2007
Changes for Zaca Fire Information Kiosks and Public Information Hotline Announced
The community information kiosks that have been placed throughout Santa Barbara County's South Coast communities during the month of August will close effective Friday, August 24 now that firefighters have contained the southern perimeter of the Zaca Fire.
In addition, the U.S. Forest Service Zaca Fire Public Information line, (805) 961-5770, will be staffed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., instead of on a 24-hour basis. The U.S. Forest Service will continue to maintain its information kiosks in strategic areas around the fire's perimeter, especially on the northern flank in Santa Barbara County and in areas of Ventura County.
As of Thursday morning, Aug. 23, the Zaca Fire had burned more than 229,000 acres, primarily in the Los Padres National Forest, making it the largest fire in Santa Barbara County's recorded history and the second largest fire in California's recorded history.
Both the community kiosks and the public information line have been key parts of the overall emergency public information outreach efforts by the County, the U.S. Forest Service, local cities and fire districts in support of the Zaca Fire Unified Command.
Regular updates about the Zaca Fire will continue to be aired on the County's government cable TV station, Channel 20, or the government TV stations for the City of Santa Barbara, Channel 18, or the City of Goleta at Channel 19 as needed.
