Zaca Fire Area Closure Now Encompasses Entire San

GOLETA, CA...The Forest Service today announced on Wednesday July 11, 2007, that it has closed additional lands to public entry as a precautionary measure because of the Zaca Fire emergency. The expanded closure now encompasses the entire San Rafael Wilderness and adjacent national forest land roughly from Highway 166 on the north to the Buckhorn Road area on the south. The 382,000-acre area will be closed until further notice.
The closure prohibits all public entry to national forest lands, trails, roads and recreation sites. It does not apply to private land. The "Zaca Fire" started on Wednesday July 4, on private land about 15 miles north of Buellton. Over the past several days the fire has advanced primarily eastward into the Los Padres National Forest and San Rafael Wilderness. The fire has burned approximately 11,900 acres and is 37 percent contained. The fire is being managed in a Unified Command with CAL FIRE, Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service.
