Despite soaring temperatures and the continued drying trend, firefighters were able to limit fire spread on most of the perimeter of the Wheeler Fire Tuesday. Islands within the fire perimeter continue to burn. Crews continue to make progress preparing and burning out line on the southern perimeter. Patrol and containment of spot fires
is ongoing. Thunderstorm activity is expected to reach the fire early evening. Safety plans will be implemented should storm activity create a weather event.
Smoke will continue with inversions in the late evenings and early mornings. Persistent smoke inversion has limited air support due to limited visibility.
The Antelope Complex started on July 5, 2007. Current containment is 21 percent with with no estimate of full containment. The Antelope Fire is currently staffed with almost 1,500 firefighters and personnel, the greatest fire staffing commitment in northern California. To date, one structure has been destroyed.
Residents of Janesville and Milford areas are advised that the Lassen County Fairgrounds will not be accepting livestock if there is a fire evacuation, due to the
upcoming county fair.
