Idleyld Park, OR --- Firefighters continue to establish control lines on the 2,700-acre Rattle Fire on the Diamond Lake Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest. Taking advantage of yesterday's cooler temperatures and higher humidity, hand crews and bulldozers, supported by engines, helicopters, and air tankers worked to keep the fire confined within the Boulder Creek Wilderness on the north, and below the ridgeline where the fire has crossed Highway 138.

On the southeast flank of the fire, crews constructed fireline and placed hose as the fire moves slowly downslope towards Soda Springs. South of Highway 138 crews continued to build and reinforce line as the fire moves down canyon to the west. On the west flank of the fire, crews worked to establish a fireline on the east side of the Eagle Creek drainage below Rattlesnake Ridge.

Incident Commander Ken Paul met with residents of the Dry Creek community last evening to give them an update on the fire.

Highway 138 remains closed 32 miles east of Glide,OR from milepost 49 to 59. Motorists are advised to check the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) website (www.tripcheck.com) for current conditions on the status of Highway 138. To contact ODOT within Oregon, dial 511, or toll-free at (800) 977-ODOT, or (503) 588-2941.

Information on closures around the fire area can be found on the Umpqua National Forest website at www.fs.fed.us/r6/umpqua.
