Rattle Fire
Idleyld Park, OR --- Significant progress was made Monday by firefighters on the 2,238-acre Rattle Fire. Fire crews, assisted by bulldozers, and helicopters continue to work to secure the eastern and southern flanks of the fire, focusing on the Highway 138 corridor. Fire behavior became more active in the afternoon as an inversion lifted and winds increased, sending a large amount of smoke skyward. Today, hand crews, dozers and eight helicopters will continue to focus on this area as well as the Rattlesnake Ridge area within the Boulder Creek Wilderness. Fire activity for today is expected to be tempered by cooler and more moist air over the area.
No structures have been lost as a result of this fire and no injuries have been reported.
The Toketee School is open today and electricity has been restored to the community of Dry Creek.
Highway 138 remains closed from milepost 49 to 59, which is 32 miles east of Glide,OR. Motorists are advised to check the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) website (www.tripcheck.com) for current conditions on the status of Highway 138. To contact ODOT within Oregon, dial 511, or toll-free at (800) 977-ODOT, or (503) 588-2941.
Additional road closures around the fire area have been ordered by the Umpqua National Forest for the safety of the public and firefighters. To view these closures visit the Forest website at www.fs.fed.us/r6/umpqua.
