FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: With the Silvies River Fire at 70% containment, suppression efforts focus on mop up and rehabilitation of hand and dozer lines, with readiness for aggressive initial attack should any hotspots flare up within the perimeter.
On Monday crews worked on the east, north, and west, mopping up to 300 feet within the perimeter. Back hauling of equipment will start in the south and southeast on Tuesday. In the Lake Creek drainage, crews completed construction of handline.
Crews and other resources continue to be demobilized as fire containment increases. Air operations released the Sky Crane, a 'heavy' helicopter, which is needed on other priority fire incidents.
"As dry as it's been the last week, along with weather events of the last two days, there's good confidence any additional fire growth or increase in fire activity is almost non-existent'." Fire Behavior Analyst Francis Mohr remarked at evening briefing on Monday.
EXPECTED DATE OF CONTAINMENT is August 13, 2008. The incident will be returned to the Burns District BLM on Thursday, August 14, 2008.
WEATHER: Northwest winds of 7- 10 mph. Relative humidities will 10 - 15 %. Warmer, drier weather continues with temperatures in the high 80's.
CURRENT RESTRICTIONS: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place five miles around the fire perimeter. The Lone Pine and Skull Creek Roads in the Silvies River Fire vicinity are restricted to use by livestock and property owners only. Fire danger remains at a HIGH and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level is a level 3 (partial shutdown). A regulated fire restriction across the entire Burns Interagency Fire Zone prohibits off road travel, open fires (except at designated campgrounds). Use of chainsaws is restricted, except at loading sites. Additional information on BLM fire restrictions is available at: 573.
