Incident: Tumble Creek Wildland Fire
Released: 8/4/2008

Start: Afternoon of August 1, 2008.

Location: Near Tumble Creek, in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage approximately 8 miles west of Woodbine Campground, and one mile south of the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness boundary. The fire is 4 miles from the Stillwater Mine.

There will be a Public meeting at the Fire Hall in Nye at 6:00 p.m. on August 5. Fire personnel will be available to share fire information and answer questions.

Personnel: 65 personnel are currently assigned to the fire. They were supported today by water and retardant drops from airtankers, and three heavy helicopters. A rappel crew was utilized to open up a helispot. Two crews were then flown into the fire.

Size: 763 Acres

Closure: An area and road closure is in place in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage north to Castle Creek.

Tom Heintz's Type 2 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team has been assigned to manage the fire.
