Wednesday August 6 Daily Update
Incident: Green Lake Wildland Fire
Released: 8/6/2008
THIS IS THE FINAL UPDATE FROM THE INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM ABOUT THE GREEN LAKE FIRE.
Today, remaining crews will complete the final search for any undetected hot spots within the pre-identified objectives (300 feet around the fire perimeter and within 500 feet of structures). They will finish the rehabilitation of all suppression-related damage, including repairing fences that were damaged by the actions taken to suppress the fire, and create waterbars on all sections of fire line where future precipitation could cause erosion. After those objectives are complete, all equipment used on the fireline will be returned to the Incident Command Post at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds. Before leaving the area, crews will pick up any items that were not there when they arrived.
For any future information specific to the Green Lake Fire, questions should be directed to DNR's Northeast Region office: 509-684-7474. If there appears to be an emergency related to fire activity, citizens should call 911.
All assigned resources except one strike team of engines (5 engines), one Strike Team Leader, and one hand crew are expected to be gone from the Okanogan County Fairgrounds by 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 7th. Those 36 firefighters will continue the process of ensuring this fire is secure and serving as additional resources in the area, based on the forecast. An additional strike team and Strike Team Leader are being released from this fire today and being prepositioned at Conconully due to high fire danger over the next few days.
FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK: Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week, and there is possibility of thunderstorms Thursday through Saturday. Those conditions, coupled with the extremely dry fuels, have wildland fire managers concerned about the potential for extreme fire growth with any new starts. Some of the resources being demobilized from the Green Lake Fire are being reassigned to the local agencies, to be pre-positioned to quickly respond in case of lightning.
As the fire team prepares to leave the area, the 75th Annual Omak Stampede Celebration is heading into high gear with the rodeo beginning Thursday evening. We hope everyone has a great time and, because of the high fire danger, ask that everyone fully comply with all regulations regarding fires.
The team wishes to thank everyone in the local communities who have had a role in making the team feel welcomed, and in helping this incident to be completed successfully and safely.
