Gunbarrel Fire Update 8-20-2008
Incident: Gunbarrel Wildland Fire
Released: 8/20/2008
Today's weather forecast includes a red flag warning in the Gunbarrel fire area. This implies low humidities and high winds, probably the highest winds seen in the North Fork Valley this week. Fire activity is expected to be highly active again today. The fire developed another large smoke column Tuesday afternoon, similar to the one that developed on Monday. Most fire growth Tuesday occurred in the upper Big Creek drainage. Fire movement was north in the drainage. Fire crews continue to accomplish fuels reduction work in the Star Hill Ranch area. Fire crews will work in coordination with helicopter bucket drops to provide structure protection and reduce the chances of the fire moving down to the highway.
