Gunbarrel Fire Update 8-19-2008

Incident: Gunbarrel Wildland Fire
Released: 8/19/2008

The Gunbarrel Fire grew over 300 acres Monday afternoon with most of the growth in the upper Big Creek area in heavy bug killed timber. Fire managers expect to see similar fire behavior on the Eastern and Western portions of the fire perimeter, especially in the early afternoon as temperatures rise and fuels dry out. The warming and drying trend is expected through Wednesday with increasing winds.

Fire crews have completed fuels reduction work in the Star Hill Ranch and south western areas of the fire.

Fire crews will continue working in the Libby, Mormon, and Goff Creeks to limit fire movement toward the highway and improve structure protection.

A helicopter has been and will continue to be utilized to help manage the fire including bucket drops.
