Cooler weather and rain occurred over most areas of the Gunbarrel Fire on Friday. Very little activity occurred on the south and east sides of the fire. "With the work that the firefighters have done over the past several days, coupled with the cooler weather, the fire seems to be 'hung' up and not moving" stated Operations Section Chief Dave Van Norman. Overall the activity above Libby Creek was also quiet. Resources continue to be evaluated as more crews are coming in and others are timing out.
Today fire management officials will continue to manage resources according to the needs of the incident. Two new hot shot crews have arrived to assist with the fire management efforts.
On Sunday the Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team A will transition the incident back to Bill Hahnenberg's Type II Incident Management Team. On Saturday members of his team will shadow with members of Don Angell's team. "One of our main objectives is for a smooth transition to the new team. It has been a pleasure working with the Shoshone National Forest, the Cody community and all participating agencies" stated Incident Commander Don Angell.
On behalf of the entire Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team A, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the agencies, community members, business owners and residents for their patience and hospitality. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
