Abraham Canyon News Release

Final Daily Update - Friday, July 18

Incident: Abraham Canyon Wildland Fire
Released: 7/18/2008

This will be the last daily fire update for the Abraham Canyon and Wilmont fires (together known as the Inchelium Complex) generated by the Incident Management Team. If future information is needed on these fires, please contact the Mt. Tolman Fire Center at 509-634-3100.

The Inchelium community and the fire and natural resource professionals from The Confederated Tribes of the Colville have been warm and gracious hosts to our team and the firefighters who have come from across the region. We appreciate all the support we have received from the hosting agencies and the community, and extend our wishes for a safe summer.

YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: Crews combed the fire perimeters to locate any remaining hot spots. Hand held infrared scanners (Palm IRs) were used again to help locate areas of heat otherwise undetectable. On both fires, hoses and equipment that were used during the fire suppression activities and are no longer needed were carried to roads to be easily picked up by ground support personnel. Water bars were built on dozer lines, roads, and hand constructed firelines to minimize potential erosion problems when the area gets precipitation again.

PLANNED ACTIONS: Approximately half of the resources that have been assigned to this fire complex will be released this morning, for travel home or reassignment to another fire. One crew will remain on the Abraham Canyon Fire and two crews will be on the line on the Wilmont Fire. They will "grid" the fire perimeter again to see if any heat has been missed, and if anything is found, it will be put out. Crews have been tasked to make sure all equipment from the fire has been removed and that no garbage remains on site, including marking flagging used during the suppression efforts. On Saturday morning, the remaining resources, including the Incident Management Team, will check out from this fire and head home. Mount Tolman Fire Center has asked that one engine remain to assist their regular resources with patrolling, or checking, the fires each day. Fire managers there will determine when to release the engine.

WEATHER OUTLOOK: Friday afternoon could have some gusty winds due potential thunderstorms to the northeast of the area. Saturday and Sunday are expected to returned to the warm, dry, seasonal conditions.
