FIRES STATUS RESOURCESAcres Burned: 84,788 Crews: 39 Engines: 46Cause: Lightning Helicopters: 8 Water Tenders: 16Date Started: June 21, 2008 Dozers: 4 Percent Contained (total complex): 87% Total Resources Assigned: 1,365Expected Containment: September 1, 2008 Uncontained Complex Fires Acres Containment Eagle 24,775 98% Buckhorn (partially in Trinity Alps Wilderness) 15,848 34% Carey (Trinity Alps Wilderness) 2,409 50%Current Fire Situation: Three fires remain active within the complex. Fire spread has been contained on the Zeigler, Ironside, and Cedar fires. The western flank of the Carey fire is being held in Eagle Creek while firefighters made good progress constructing containment lines along the eastern flank of the fire. Fire behavior remains active on the Buckhorn fire. The southern flank of the Buckhorn fire continues to actively spread into the French Creek drainage and may reach both the Limestone and Upper Waldorff Ridges. Roll-out, snags and the rugged terrain have limited direct attack options for fire crews on the Buckhorn fire and they continue to scout for direct and indirect alternatives. Both fires are located in extremely steep terrain with limited and difficult access within the Trinity-Alps Wilderness area.
Today's Objectives:
Eagle: Fire fighters will patrol and hold established containment lines and continue to mop up hot spots within 300 feet of the fire's perimeter.
Buckhorn: Fire fighters will construct indirect fireline on the southeastern flank of the fire along Manzanita Ridge. Fire crews will prepare French Creek Road for anticipated burnout operations and will continue to improve perimeter protection for both the Brooks and Lower Waldorff ranches.
Carey: Fire fighters will patrol the contained fire perimeter, and continue limited line construction where necessary to hold the fire from significant growth.
Cedar: Fire fighters will patrol and mop up hot spots within 300 feet along the containment lines while the National Guard will continue fire suppression repair.
Area Closures: A Closure Order remains in place by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest prohibiting public use of National Forest System lands south of Highway 299. A closure map and description may be found at: www.fs.fed.us/r5/shastatrinity/conditions. Forest Road 60 from Hyampom to Burnt Ranch remains closed.
