Current Status

The Cub Complex, which includes the Onion and Cub Fires, is currently managed by the Southern Area Interagency Management (Red) Team. The fire is located 16 miles southwest of Chester, CA Lat: 40° 10' 51" Long: 121°33'44"

Restrictions and Closures

In the Lassen National Forest, firewood cutting permits have been suspended, campfires are allowed only in designated campgrounds and recreation sites, and vehicles are restricted to roads and trails. Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles or buildings. Contact the local Forest Service office (LNF) for details and other restrictions.

The Lassen National Forest has issued a temporary forest closure ordered on the southern and western parts of the Almanor Ranger District due to fire activity. The Potato Patch, Alder and Elam Campgrounds in Deer Creek Canyon are closed

Highway 32 remains closed through Deer Creek Canyon from the junction of Hwy 36 and Hwy 32 south toward Chico, CA. Call Cal Trans 1-800-427-ROAD (7623) for current information on road closures.

The Butte County Sheriff office's June 24th precautionary advisory for Butte Meadows and Jonesville area has been lifted.

Plans for

Today

Burnout operations will continue on portions of the Cub Fire. Crews will continue to work on the Cub Fire along Elam Creek to the Pacific Crest Trail with an attempt to burnout the southeast flank of the fire. Dozer and hand lines will continue to be constructed and reinforced along roads connecting the Pacific Crest Trail to the Cub Creek Trail. Continue mop-up along the northwestern flank of the Onion Fire. Contain spot around Round Valley Creek. A burnout operation is planned along Highway 32.

Fire weather

Continued sunny with temperatures from 81° to 85°. Minimum Relative Humidity ranging from 19% to 29% with predicted west-southwest winds at 5 mph and gusts up to 15 mph. A sharp warming trend will begin Sunday and continue through next week.

Other Fire

Information

Smoke will remain in the Chester, CA area from the Cub Complex and other fires burning south of Lassen NF. Motorists should be alert to smoke on the roads as well as heavy equipment.
