New Fire Managers to Tackle The Yolla Bolly Fires
Incident: Yolla Bolly Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 8/7/2008
Larsen's Northern Rockies National Incident Management Team (IMT) will be transitioning control of the fires on the Yolla Bolly Complex to Pete Blume's Rocky Mountain Type 2 IMT on Thursday and Friday. After nearly three weeks of battling the fires in the torturously steep, rugged terrain of the upper Trinity and Eel Rivers, the Northern Rockies Team is headed home for a well deserved rest. Blume's Team will assume command of the Complex on Saturday, August 9 at 6:00 a.m. Fire personnel are using the two days together to undertake a thorough reconnaissance of the fires, and, go over the "lessons" that Larsen's team has gleaned from their tour of duty fighting fires in the wild, remote country of the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness.
Larsen's Incident Command Post (ICP) at Paskenta will be packed up by Friday evening, and, the base camp disassembled. The new headquarters for the Rocky Mountain Team's oversight of the Yolla Bolly fires is being established at the Double A Ranch, about 15 miles southeast of Mad River. The fires in the Yolla Bolly Complex total to approximately 82,259 acres in size, with an estimated 75% containment.
