Canyon Complex Update

1:30 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2008

Cold Fire: Firefighters continue to mop up and patrol the Cold Fire.

Containment lines are holding.

Beldon Fire: There are still pockets of fire burning in the northwest corner. The area has been inaccessible due to terrain and snags. When the smoke lifts, two heli tankers have been working on cooling the fire in this area.

Little Fire: Firefighters continue to construct line. Hand crews are tying together the road system near the North Fork of the Little Feather River. The west and east sides of the fire have slowed due to wetland areas in the drainages.

Scotch Fire: Dozer line is being built on the north side of the Scotch Fire. The fire crossed the Middle Fork of the Feather River. Firefighters had a busy day yesterday holding lines. The southeast corner is still actively burning. Yesterday the fire burned south to the 94 Road where crews halted the fire spread.

South/Frey Fire: Firefighters have contained the north and eastern perimeters. Firefighters are exploring contingency line options on the southwestern flanks of the fire. They are actively constructing line on the southwest corner to check fire spread down to Frey Creek.

Friend-Darnell Fire: Firefighters are holding and improving containment lines around the perimeter of the fire. They have completed containment lines on the south and east sides into Feather River Canyon.

Firefighters will be evaluating the need for monitoring evacuation levels.

French Bear: No activity. There is still a lot of work to do. Air attack was able to work on this fire.

The fires declared contained, remained contained and are being mopped up and patrolled.

Fire potential is still very high. The fine dead fuels are under 8 percent moisture content.

There is currently a weak on-shore flow. The temperatures are predicted to decrease a few degrees per day for the next few days.
