Current Situation: Remaining areas of heat, including the top of Harding Canyon, Pine Canyon, the area above Silverado Canyon, and the mine site require attention to prevent any escape from containment lines. Fuel involved includes annual grasses and brush. Much of the fuel involved has not burned in over 100 years and remains extremely dry. Very little fire activity was observed yesterday and what was observed consisted of small flare-ups.

The marine layer pushed into the fire area last night, but did not reach the eastern areas of the fire. Relative humidity peaked at 24% resulting in low moisture recovery to the fuels. Smoke may be seen over the fire area today as unburned pockets of fuel within the eastern portion of the fire area will likely flare up.

Planned Actions: Maintain public and fire fighter safety. The priorities for firefighting crews today include mopping up, patrolling and rehabilitating fireline in the Silverado Canyon area as well as areas in the northeastern portion of the fire. Structure protection resources are not deployed in the Silverado Canyon area; however, crews will remain along the fireline above the residences and OCFA station 14 is staffed. Patrols will continue in the western and southern portions of the fire area. Operations in the eastern portion of the fire area will concentrate on maintaining, improving and rehabilitating the fireline.

The Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation Team is currently working in the fire area to assess and mitigate potential environmental damage resulting from this fire. For information one the Team's activities, go to http://www.inciweb.org/.

Arson Investigation: The Santiago Fire Investigation Team, including Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Sheriff's Department, ATF, and FBI, continues to work on the investigation.

Anyone with information should contact the arson investigators on the arson tip line at (800)540-8282 to assist with the investigation. For those that have already called the tip line with information, all tips are being answered and contacts being made, so it is not necessary to make repeat tips with the same information.

Evacuations: The Cleveland National Forest remains closed to all members of the public. There are no evacuations in place; however, proof of residency is required for entry into Silverado, Black Star and Baker canyons.

Road Closures: None.
