Sikorsky Helicopter Crashed on Backbone Incident

WILLOW CREEK, Calif. - A Sikorsky helicopter working on the Backbone Fire was involved in an accident at 3:16 pm today while working at a heliwell which is located north of the fires edge on the Klamath National Forest. There were two pilots on board. One pilot is being transported by medivac to a local hospital for evaluation, while the other is being evaluated on the scene. It is unknown how serious any injuries might be, but both pilots walked away from the accident site.
The aircraft was flipped on its side which resulted in a small fuel spill, but there was no fire. Sikorsky-61, is owned by a private company under contract to the US Forest Service. An investigation team has been ordered.
