Current Fire Situation: The Granite and Carey fires remain the priority fires within the Alps Complex. Yesterday the smoke cleared enough so that a helicopter with a bucket was able to drop water to assist the crews on the Carey Fire. The Carey Fire is 17 miles fromthe trailhead so crews working the fire will camp in a meadow close to fire. Crews will be re-supplied by pack string daily. On th516-acre Granite Fire crews continue to make good progress.
Planned Actions: Crews have the Granite Fire 62% contained and crews will be working today to further their containment and to ensure that they can hold the existing line. Rolling logs and debris and burning snags falling across the line are a challenge. Crews will continue with suppression efforts on the Carey Fire today.
Weather: Weather today should be mostly sunny and breezy with temperatures ranging from the mid to high 80s on the Granite Fire and closer to 90 on the Carey fire. The weather is predicted to get warmer and dryer over the next few days.
Alps Complex Status
Changes in fire status: The status of the following six fires, Soldier, North Fork, Bacon, Gorge, Thurston and Gwin, is being changed to Unable to Locate (UTL). They were initially reported by lookouts on the ground and/or through aerial reconnaissance after the lightning went through on June 21st. Firefighters on the ground and aerial reconnaissance currently are unable to see any active fire at the locations indicated. These locations will continue to be monitored throughout the summer. The following 3 fires, Pony, Willow and Devil were initially attacked by smokejumpers and contained.
