482 Acres Prescribed Fire Work Planned Near Tusayan
Incident: Tusayan Ranger District Prescribed Fire Prescribed Fire
TUSAYAN AZ – As favorable conditions continue fire managers may burn 482 acres in two locations on the Tusayan Ranger District this week. Crews anticipate starting on Tuesday October 22 2013 on 363 acres of the Tusayan South project located 5 miles south of Tusayan along Highway 64. Tusayan South smoke is predicted to disperse to the west with limited daytime impacts to the town of Tusayan. Because there will likely be some smoke impact to Highway 64 drivers are asked to use caution in these areas should they occur.
An additional 119 acres are planned for the Flying J project area located 3 miles southwest of Tusayan AZ west of Highway 64. 373 acres have already been completed on the Flying J project this fall in multiple stages. Additional burning work may be completed on either project through Friday October 25 2013
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability weather – including winds and ventilation and approval from the ADEQ (www.azdeq.gov). A smoke column may still be visible along Highway 64 near Tusayan for both projects.
