Prescribed Fire Work Continues on 400 Acres
Incident: Tusayan Ranger District Prescribed Fire Prescribed Fire
TUSAYAN AZ – Approximately 400 total acres of prescribed fire are planned for the Flying J and Russell project areas within the next few days pending the return of favorable conditions. Beginning Friday fire managers may start ignitions on 200 acres of the Russell project area 17 miles southeast of Tusayan AZ on the south side of FS road 310. With east winds predicted Saturday crews plan on continuing work on another 200 acres of the Flying J project located 3 miles southwest of Tusayan AZ west of Highway 64. Additional burning work may be completed on either project through Monday September 30 2013
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on regional Forest Service approval personnel availability weather – including winds and ventilation and approval from the ADEQ (www.azdeq.gov). Russell smoke is predicted to disperse to the south with no impacts to the town of Tusayan. Smoke from Flying J will likely disperse to the west with minimal impacts to Tusayan. A smoke column may still be visible along Highway 64 near Tusayan.
