The lightning caused Beaver Creek Fire, located in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness Area, remains at 75 acres and is located in heavy dead, down and bug damaged lodgepole pine.
Yesterday’s activities included a survey of the fire area to identify areas needing rehabilitation to return unneeded firelines, brush piling and evidence of fire fighting activities to a more natural condition. No rain fell on the fire but humidity was up. The fire continues to creep and smolder and where there was still heat, the lights winds kicked up smoke.
Today, the 8 person Wildland Fire Module will be flown into the fire to begin the rehabilitation work and they will collect information on fuels, weather and fire behavior. In support of the long term management plan, managers will continue evaluating structure protection needs at Mystic Cabin and other contingency actions should the fire move toward timber management lands and other values in Pintler Creek.
Today’s weather is expected to be similar to yesterday, remaining cool (70 to 75 degrees) and relative humidity expected at 40%. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for the general area. Fire activity is expected to be minimal but smokes may appear where there is heat and wind. The Type 3 helicopter will be used for transporting the firefighters and supplies into the spike camp near the fire.
Trail Closures: For public safety, trail closures remain in effect (2013 – D2/D3-042 and 047) closing Pintler Trail #203, Beaver Creek Trail #3368, and Mystic Trail #3369. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDNST) and Pintler campground remain open.
