Incident: Chestnut Fire Wildfire
Acres: 4,176 Start date: August 18, 2013
Cause: Lightning Location: 6 miles east of Gabbs, NV
Containment: 25% Fuels: Piñon, juniper, sage and grass
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 4 crews, 7 engines, 3 water tender, 1 dozer
Total personnel: 202
Summary: Crews continued their efforts along the perimeter of the fire. Mop-up efforts took place along the northern perimeter, and additional bulldozer line broadened the fire line along the southern perimeter. Fire activity was minimal, primarily consisting of creeping and smoldering, along with occasional single and group tree torching.
Smoke may be visible from the interior. Mop-up and patrol will continue to take place along the northern portion of the fire, and crews will work to strengthen containment lines around the remainder of the perimeter.
Highway 844 was reopened as of the evening of Monday, August 21, and will remain open.
