Little Queens Fire Update - 8/23/2013
Incident: Little Queens Wildfire
Start: August 17, 2013
Location: Elmore County, three miles north of Atlanta, ID
Cause: Under Investigation
Size: 12,787 acres
Fuels: Timber (litter and understory), Sub-alpine fir, Douglas-fir, pine
Assigned Resources: 8 20-person crews, 4 helicopters, 19 engines, 1 dozer, 3 water tenders, 2 camp crews and miscellaneous overhead personnel-Total Personnel: 367
Observed Fire Behavior: Running, with passive crown fire and mid-range spotting
Evacuations: Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Atlanta, ID. Firefighting forces are allowed ingress and egress to Atlanta in the course of their duties. Neither the public nor residents are allowed to enter Atlanta at this time for public safety reasons.
Fire Situation: Yesterday, the inversion over the fire remained until 1 p.m.; as the inversion lifted, fire behavior increased significantly. The fire expanded on the southwest flank to Graylock Mountain and to the southeast in Little Queens River. The fire has crossed Queens River in China Basin.
Firefighters continued to work on structure protection in the community of Atlanta, ID. They continued improving the fireline to the north of Atlanta and made significant progress establishing hoselays. Portable water reservoirs have been brought in to assist firefighters in the protection of Atlanta.
