Wildland Fire Ignites North of Interstate 90 near Bearmouth Area
Aggressive Initial Attack is Underway
August 15, 2013, 8:00pm, Missoula, Montana – A fire was reported tonight at 6:00pm in the Bearmouth Area east of Missoula and north of Interstate 90 near mile marker 135. The fire is named the Nimrod Fire, approximately 50+ acres and cause of the fire is unknown. The fire is being fought by both land and air.
At this time, firefighters and engines from Missoula Rural Fire Department, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Southwestern Land Office (DNRC), Clinton Fire Department, and US Forest Service are on the scene. Air resources include: 2 medium helicopters; 1 heavy helicopter; 1 single engine air tanker and air attack. Water is currently being dropped to slow the spread of the fire and retardant is on the way.
Local area residents and travelers on Interstate 90 are asked to not park alongside of the road for safety and to reduce the chances of starting a fire. Even pulling off the road to watch the aircraft working the fire could ignite tinder-dry grasses under your vehicle!
