Corral Complex September 5, 2013 PM Update
Incident: Corral Complex Wildfire
Incident: The Corral Complex was started by lightning on August 10, 2013 and is burning within the 1999 Megram Fire and the 2009 Backbone Fire areas.
Location: Trinity Alps Wilderness
Agency Jurisdiction: Unified Command-USDA Forest Service and the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
Cooperating Agencies: Hoopa Valley Tribe, Willow Creek VFD, Hawkins Bar/Denny VFD, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County DPW, Humboldt County OES, and Trinity County OES
Current Size: Complex is 12,295 Acres Cause: Lightning
Containment: 73% Structures Threatened: 114
Total Personnel: 858
Current Situation: Crews are making excellent progress in constructing handline along the western section of fire near Tish Tang Point and south near the Quinby Creek area. Aircraft continue to work the southern perimeter near Horse Linto Creek. Overall the heat from the fire is quickly diminishing. Fire managers are feeling prepared for the upcoming weekend when temperatures will be up and relative humidity down. “Saturday and Sunday we’re expecting our suppression efforts to be tested by the forecasted weather,” states Dennis Burns, Fire Behavior Analyst for the team.
In the meantime, rehab for the fireline has begun. The Hoopa Valley Tribe and fire managers are in the process of developing a rehab plan for the reservation. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest recently completed rehabbing fireline on their forest, which runs from the Trinity Guard Station down to Grizzly Camp.
With the significant progress made fire managers are downsizing the suppression organization to reflect the reduced workload. Resources are being released as conditions warrant. If no significant growth is experienced over the weekend, Team 3 will transition early next to a local incident management team.
Road Closures: Six Rivers National Forest issued an emergency fire road closure 8/30/2013 (Order No. 10-13-06) for all or part of the following roads: Forest roads 8N03, 6N03, 8N01. Road closures on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation include Big Hill Road, Tish Tang Road, Mill Creek Gap, and Four Corners due to fire personnel, traffic, and fire suppression activities.
Area & Trail Closures: For public safety and to ensure safe access for firefighters and equipment, public access is restricted in the fire area. Shasta-Trinity National Forest issued a Forest Order to close the Corral Complex Area and all trails and road within the area on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b) effective September 5, 2013.
