Containment: 67% Structures Threatened: 114
Current Resources: Crews: 20 Engines: 24 Helicopters: 9 Dozers: 7
Total Personnel: 975
Current Situation: Direct fire line construction will continue today as this strategy has been very successful over the last 24 hours. The wildfire is at its highest level of containment to date at 67%. Fire managers will look at increasing that today as they plan to take advantage of the continued above-average humidity conditions and cooler temperatures. Crews using coyote tactics will continue to build hand line along the fire’s perimeter where it is safely accessible throughout the day today in an effort to add more containment. (The term coyote refers to an operational strategy in which hot shot crews camp in a safety zone near the fire area at the end of their days operational period and then resume work the next day.) Aviation assets will continue their suppression work from the air.
If the fire spreads any today, it is expected to slowly creep toward the southwest into the Horse Linto Creek area and possibly northwest in the South Fork of the Tish Tang Creek. Hotter and drier weather conditions are expected this weekend so there is the possibility for fire activity and the presence of smoke to increase.
Another area of emphasis for today will be the rehabilitation of areas serving as fire breaks.
Road Closures: Six Rivers National Forest issued an emergency fire road closure 8/30/2013 (Order No. 10-13-06) for all or part of the following roads: Forest roads 8N03, 6N03, 8N01. Road closures on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation include Big Hill Road, Tish Tang Road, Mill Creek Gap, and Four Corners due to fire personnel, traffic, and fire suppression activities.
Area & Trail Closures: For public safety and to ensure safe access for firefighters and equipment, public access is restricted in the fire area. Shasta-Trinity National Forest issued a Forest Order to close the Corral Complex Area and all trails and road within the area on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest (16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b) effective September 5, 2013.
