Incident: State Wildfire

Cause: Lightning Location: 8 miles west of Portage, UT
Containment: 70% Fuels: Timber, grass and understory
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 6 crews, 26 engines, 13 water tenders, 5 dozers
Total personnel: 375 Available air support: 1 helicopter
Summary: Firefighters continue to secure the fire line. Although interior burning is still a occuring, it is not a direct threat to containment lines. Fire behavior displayed isolated torching, creeping, and smoldering.
Significant progress was made on rehabilitation efforts and securing the fire’s edge. Patrol, mop up, and suppression efforts will continue. Large unburned areas still remain inside the containment lines; as these areas burn, there is potential for large smoke columns while temperatures remain high and humidity is low.
The tremendous positive support from Malad landowners and the community is greatly appreciated, as well as the cooperation of the National Guard, local law enforcement, fire department, and many others.
