Cause: Lightning Location: 8 miles west of Portage, UT
Containment: 50% Fuels: Timber, grass and understory
Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 7 crews, 13 engines, 3 water tenders, 3 dozers
Total personnel: 266 Available air support: 2 helicopters
Summary: Today, the firefighters improved and held the control line on all sides of the fire. The north side of the fire is expected to have the most activity as it backs down to the flats. Flare ups may occur in sage and result in a very rapid increase in spread rate and flame length. On the southeast side of the fire, burning will continue to move to the north, burning down north facing slopes and running up southerly facing slopes. The fire will continue to burn actively well into the night.
Tomorrow, firefighters will continue to hold and improve control lines. On the north and east side of the fire, they will prepare dozer lines for potential burnout operations and burnout as conditions allow. Firefighters will continue to hold and mop-up on the south end of the fire.
