American Fire Update 8-31-13

Fire Status: With full containment of the American Fire, California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 is preparing to transition management of the fire to a local incident management team. Transfer of command will occur at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2.
Today, crews will continue to patrol the fire area seeking out hot spots. Firefighters working in the interior of the fire are paying close attention to hazards including burned trees and holes in the ground caused by burned out stumps and root systems. Heavy equipment continues to be used to repair roads and fire lines constructed with dozers. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will start work today identifying areas within the fire to be repaired prior to winter rains.
American Fire team personnel have taken photos of the two bridges on the Western States Trail within the fire perimeter, and the bridges are standing but damaged. As soon as safety permits, qualified personnel will inspect the bridges to determine their foundational integrity and identify repairs needed before the public can safely use these structures.

French Meadow Reservoir and access to the Oxbow Middle Fork American Rafting Launch are open.
The following Forest Service Roads (FSR) along the American Fire area perimeter remain closed:
Deadwood Ridge Road (FSR 6149) from Foresthill Divide Road (FSR 0088) to the road’s end; Foresthill Divide Road (FSR 0088) from the intersection of Humbug Canyon Road (FSR 66) to Robinson Flat; and Flat Ravine Road (FSR 43) from Robinson Flat Campground to Mosquito Ridge Road (FSR 96).
Robinson Flat Campground and Duncan Peak Lookout also remain closed.
Effective today, the Tahoe National Forest has issued a new Forest Order, Number 17-13-07, closing portions of the Tahoe NF on the American River Ranger District. Go to www.fs.usda.gov/tahoe for more information.
