This will be the final evening update for the Elk Fire.
Effective Saturday, August 17, a single daily update will be released each morning.

Firefighters made good progress today constructing hand line and burning out on Lava Mountain up to the 2012 Trinity Fire scar. Throughout the Pine-Featherville corridor, crews patrolled and extinguished hot spots for a distance of 200-300 feet from the control lines. Several engines, crews, and other firefighting resources not needed locally, were released from the Elk Fire to assist fire suppression efforts at the nearby Beaver Complex.
The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office has announced lifting the Pine-Featherville evacuation orders effective Sunday August 18 at 5 pm, allowing residents only to return home.
East flank of the fire: Night shift crews will hold, patrol and mop-up throughout the Pine-Featherville corridor, paying special attention for rolling debris on steep slopes that may cause new spot fires.
West flank of the fire: Similar to last night, firefighters will patrol fire lines and provide structure protection for Prairie residences.
Evacuations and Road Closures:
Evacuations issued by the Elmore County Sheriff’s office remain in effect for the communities of Pine and Featherville through Sunday August 18.
Road closures are in effect for the Pine/Featherville Road, Cow Creek Road and Blacks Creek Road.
