Fire Update 8/16/13
Incident: Pony Complex Wildfire
Pony Complex Daily Fire Update August 16, 2013
Location: 12 miles Northeast of Mountain Home, ID
Size: 147,881 acres
Assigned Resources: 343 personnel
Closures: : Blacks Creek Rd., Indian Creek Rd., Anderson Ranch Dam south on the Dixie Creek Cutoff to Hwy 20, Prairie Road/Cow Cr. Rd north from Hwy 20, Northbound Mayfield Rd from Mayfield.
Fire Situation: Firefighters continued to make good progress yesterday and fire managers were able to raise the containment percentage up to 80 %. The fire is in the mop-up and monitor stage on all flanks except for the area near Black’s Creek road to the northwest. Crews worked to extinguish remaining hot spots near Anderson Ranch Dam and around the Danskin lookout.
The northwestern edge of the fire continued to have some areas of heat throughout the day yesterday. Resources are making progress on the fire’s edge in this area and have secured a fire line down to Black’s Creek road. Today’s plan is to ensure that nothing along the edge of the road flares up and crosses containment lines.
Fire suppression repair work will continue on all areas of the fire perimeter as the incident begins to wind down in the coming days. Fireline repair helps reduce the chance of erosion in the months after a fire before new vegetation has began to grow.
