Fire Update 8/12/13 Pm
Incident: Pony Complex Wildfire
Pony Complex Fire PM Update August 12, 2013
Location: 12 miles Northeast of Mountain Home, ID
Size: 143, 900
Fuels: Grasses, sagebrush and pockets of timber
Observed Fire Behavior: Extreme running fire spread
Assigned Resources: 330 personnel
Evacuations: Residents in the Mayfield area have been allowed back into their homes. The road closures listed below still remain in effect for the general public.
Closures: Blacks Creek Rd., Indian Creek Rd., Anderson Ranch Dam south on the Dixie Creek Cutoff to Hwy 20, Prairie Road/Cow Cr. Rd north from Hwy 20, Mayfield Rd and surrounding access roads
Fire Situation: Containment of the fire continues to be hampered due to fire behavior, steep terrain, and access. Today’s operations on the eastern portion near Anderson Ranch Dam focused on confining the fire to the north side of highway 20. Aircraft was available for a short portion of the day to help check the fire’s spread. Use of aircraft was severely reduced due to thick smoke that limited visibility.
Firefighters worked towards completion of structure protection in the Syrup Creek drainage today by conducting burnout operations. Assessment of structures within the fire area was continued today, no additional structures were lost .
The fire is now within a 1/3 of a mile, and one ridgeline away, from Blacks Creek. Firefighters worked throughout the day burning along Cow Creek Road in hopes of restricting the fire from crossing Blacks Creek.
As fire activity diminishes the public is reminded to continue to use caution driving in the area. Resources will continue to work in all areas constructing and improving fire lines and beginning rehabilitation efforts.
