Reward Offered for Fire Start Information
The Klamath National Forest and CAL FIRE have issued a joint announcement of a $20 000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for starting the Salmon River Complex and Butler Fires. Salmon River Road Traffic Control Discontinued-Traffic control measures on the Salmon River Road between Butler Flat and Nordheimer Campground will be discontinued this afternoon. Motorists need to be very alert for fallen rocks and other debris in the roadway.
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior - Friday afternoon a storm front moved into the area bringing heavy rain which continues today. Two inches of rain have fallen at ridge tops and the Incident Meteorologist estimates that up to 2 inches of rain have fallen on the fire.
Butler Fire – Yesterday fire fightersl continued rehabilitating roads hand lines and dozer lines to prevent erosion. Crews also continued removing equipment such as hoses from the fire area. Today personnel are being rapidly released from the Forks Complex as heavy rains continue. Crews are in the process dismantling the Incident Command Post at Forks of Salmon is expect to complete the task by Monday. Remaining fire suppression repair work will completed by a Klamath National Forest Type 4 Management Team when rains abate.
Salmon River Complex – This fire remains in patrol status.
Area Emergency Closure - The public is encouraged to comply with the emergency closure order in the areas of the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex. Public safety is a prime objective. Wildfires create weakened trees that may fall as well as erosion and slide potential aggravated by rain on soils devoid of vegetation. The public is urged to use caution near burned areas due to the possibility of debris flow and mud slides. Conditions for vehicle and foot travel are perilous. Forks Complex Alerts
A Forest Closure is still in effect around the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex on the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests. The purpose of this order is public safety due to active pockets of fire within containment lines. Campfire restrictions have been lifted effective September 21 2013 due to recent rainfall and anticipated wetter cooler weather. Persons who wish to have a campfire need a valid California Permit which is available at local Forest Service offices.
