Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Forks Complex Update Wednesday September 18 2013
A community meeting is scheduled to inform the public about Forks Complex fires. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in Forks of Salmon at the Community Center in the Old Schoolhouse.
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior – Cool moist weather is predicted to change to warmer and drier conditions this afternoon. Humidity is expected to decrease with the warmer conditions lasting through Thursday. A strong cold front is expected Thursday night and Friday bringing one-quarter to one-half inch of rain and increased southerly winds by late Friday. Fire behavior has been moderated by the recent cool humid conditions. Drier and warmer conditions today and tomorrow create the potential for light fuels to carry fire but significant fire spread is not expected.
Butler Fire – With decreased fire behavior due to successful firefighting tactics and cool moist weather the top priority is rehabilitation of roads and dozer lines to prevent erosion. Firefighters continue to monitor key areas with recent warm spots and are prepared to take suppression action as necessary if fire does become more active. Removal of equipment such as hoses and pumps from the fire area continues.
Salmon River Complex – This fire remains in patrol status.
Area Emergency Closure - The public is encouraged to comply with the emergency closure order in the areas of the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex. Public safety is a prime objective. Wildfires create weakened trees that may fall as well as erosion and slide potential which is aggravated by rain on soils devoid of vegetation. Conditions for vehicle and foot travel are perilous. The Klamath National Forest Emergency Closure Order No. 13-05-731 describing the closure area can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/lsbx7ne.
